Okay. That's all for this issue.

  1. Hey Guys and Gals!

I am a tutor at Cafétalk, and I wanted to comment on this list a little.

I agree that tutors must be responsible and professional in responding to lesson requests. It is only polite to respond to the interests of new students. Cafétalk is unique because the tutors and students work together to tailor the classes to the objectives of on-line study. So, students need to be very clear what their objectives are before requesting a lesson.

Before you request a lesson, make sure you know what you want. Do you just want to have a friendly chat? Then browse through the tutor profiles and find a tutor who offers a class that is basically conversation. If, on the other hand, you are interested in preparing for an exam, then you should look for a tutor who is an expert in that area.

A pretty photograph or a good price is not always the best reason to request a class. Please tell the tutor what you want to study, be specific, say "I need to improve my grammar" or "I have to make an important presentation" or "I find English difficult to pronounce". This information will help the tutor know if he or she can offer a good class to you. Let the tutor know your level of English, tell the tutor how much English you have studied and where.

Finally, don't ask for a trial lesson unless you are really interested in studying. Learning and practicing language on the Internet means that the student must also be responsible. All language learning is a regular process and the student should have the motivation and time to dedicate to regular classes.

Cafétalk is really unique because it puts people in contact with one another. Tutors are not required to follow predesigned plans and students have the freedom to have many different tutors. Working together, both tutors and students can make Cafétalk an excellent tool for language study.

    peace,
    Mr Spears.
